'Low carbon city' development and 'Smart city' development are the new buzz words among the city planning fraternity. The former is endorsed by climate change related professionals while the latter is endorsed by the govt. of india, as sustainable. If we are able to find similar interventions and develop a common framework for both, it will act as a Model city, which is both climate friendly and sustainable. Any suggestions are welcome.
'Low carbon cities' can be smart, but 'Smart cities' may not necessarily be low carbon ones. Therefore, for interventions to develop a common framework for both, the model city can be looked at mainly from the 'Low carbon city ' point of view.Aside that, a 'Low carbon city' will definitely be sustainable. Incorporation of solar equipment into buildings for renewable energy generation, plastic recycling and less production or release of 'ozone depletion' gases into the atmosphere will certainly be necessary factors to be considered for this model city.
