I am searching for literature that contains half-value thicknesses for the capture of thermal neutrons. At least water and cadmium should be included, polyethylene would be nice. The publication should be appropriate for referencing it in a paper. By the way, a trustworthy online tool would also do.
I see that the values can easily be calculated from the microscopic cross-sections, for which publications are available in abundance, but I only need it for a side notice. Therefore, introducing the calculation would be too detailed. Thank you for your assistance.

Here only the mass attenuation coefficients of the elements are displayed but those of the componds are easily calculated from them.

I just found a listing of some HVL values for thermal neutrons in table 6.1 at page 49 of the following link:

Pay attention: loading of the link takes while (at least at my computer).
The authors took the data from: ASTM E748.
You may get access to ASTM E748 via your institution.

Brings back some happy memories of building a water moderated neutron d boron detector tank! Good to see you got some refs as I am not sure I could find my old data.
I'm afraid you would have to contact Sheffield University for that as I completed that Project in 1995 and have long since left that area. It was only an MSc Project so outside of the reference data I found I'm not sure how useful it would be anyway.
