What is link between light and structure of nanoparticles. There are reports that UV light and radiations affect properties of nanoparticles; why? How?
Light effect nanoparticles? Yes...variety of applications is based on the tunable interactions between the nanoparticles and incident light. The shape of nanoparticles is an important factor in modulating the plasmonic properties because surface plasmons are significantly affected by the shape. In particular, when a nanoparticle consists of two different parts, one presenting plasmonic properties and the other presenting a second function such as catalytic properties, the contact mode of these two parts greatly affects the formation of surface plasmons.
As Sadanad mentioned، light, mostly UV light, has various effecs on NPs. Obviously, the sensitivity of NPs towards light is different. Ag NPs, for instance, is more sensetive than, say ,a metal oxide. The size, zeta charge and other properties of NPs may be changed on exposure to light. Even redox reactions may occur on the surface of NPs. Extensive studies has been done on this subject and you can easily find the effects of light on the NPs you are studying.
I completely agree with the above comments, but after reading @Dr Mohammad kooti, I need a small clarification, if the UV or Visible light radiation effect on the size, then we can observe a SPR shift in the peak position.. is it possible to observe a peak shift in the SPR based nanoparticles after a long exposure of light ?
