I am looking for the leaf shape coefficients of the plants Swiss chard and cabbage, I want to calculate the Leaf area for both crops. I came across the below suggested formula for leaf area measurement which is, 𝐴=𝑏×𝑙×𝑤. Where "b" is leaf shape coefficient, "l" is length of leaf and "w" is width of leaf.
So now I am stuck here with only knowing how to measure "l" and and "w", Can any one assist me with information of these and maybe refer me to articles that I may find more information on using this formula. I do not want to use the scanning and photograph methods as I am working on a very low budget.

Leaf shape and size may covary with environment and thus alter the coefficients of leaf area estimation models, so you could use the following simple method. Leaf area (cm2) = x/y, where x is the weight (g) of the area covered by the leaf outline on graph paper, and is y the weight of one cm2 of the same graph paper.
