Although I am following with great interest the latest results in the area of image synthesis and Deep Learning, scientific fake pictures are not central to my research. I suppose "fake pictures" covers a wide range of source from fabricated schemes for publication to pseudo-evidence for conspiracy theorie. Is there an example you can give? Best, Jo

I am just now working on a paper about it that will be published after some weeks. Are you right on it, my research widely deal about scientific images but now I am focusing on it, but not excluding the whole research topic. - Yo trabajo en el desarrollo de métricas para cuantificar el potencial de comunicación de las representaciones utilizadas durante las etapas de creación de ideas en el desarrollo de productos. Estoy en el proceso de desarrollar una métrica para poder cuantificar el potencial de diversas representaciones de diseño e.g. sketches, prototipos, etc. para incrementar la producción creativa de diseñadores. En este caso, para el desarrollo de esta métrica estoy considerando aspectos: semánticos, cognitivos y perceptuales. Tengo ublicaciones enfocadas a la cuantificación de la incertidumbre en la comunicación con representaciones de diseño conceptual, podrías echarles un vistazo para que puedas tener una mejor idea de mi trabajo y de como podríamos colaborar.

Hi Johnnes, my work is usually related to scientific interpretation. Deals with the qualitative interpretation of quantitative data. These can lead to some appreciation of what can be assumed as fake images but develops not just on the reading of the images but of what can it bring to new findings in the process of simplification and interaction with the data. Solving problems trough visualization. Problems involving data visualization, organization, input and storage. I have not published yet the prototypes of the Ui's that resulted from my thesis but could send them to you if you are interested.

Ok, but how is an image fake? The colours, comosition, and shapes reflect onto our eye respectors to be intrepeted by our brain. So it is real. If your suggesting an optical illusion, the image is still true as it is our brain that distorts the image. The image is still real.

An images consists of signifiers that communicates something, information. Here we enter semiotics, the signifer does not represent the signfied so then it may be a symbol or index. If the symbol or index is not a learned link to the signified then the communication is not correct. The image is real, but the information is disinformation.

Probably you are focusing on a concept about "the real" that not is accepted nowadays, actually surpassed longtime ago. Maybe could be interesting for you to check some other works, apart from mine. At some on my articles you can find wide references about it.
