Dear all,

I calculated pressure drop of a shell side of a shell and tube heat exchanger.

Pressure drop by Kern method is very large as compared to Bell Delaware method. ( I also confirmed it , as I could see a solved example in Coulsen and Richardsons chemical engineering design book by Sinnott, there also a large difference in pressure drop by Kern and Bell Delaware method exists).

I also further confirmed it following steps given in Hewitt s handbook ( A chapter by J. Taborek).

In general , which one is more suitable?

Bell Delaware is detailed (flow leakages, bypass etc) as compared to Kern's Method ( and I need these details , as my research includes varying these details). Therefore, I cannot use Kern's Method.

Can you please suggest what can be done?

Thanks alot.
