While writing a research paper, we often choose at least one co-author (it might be more than one) to ease and smooth our research work. In order to do so, we experience different things. Kindly share your your experience of working with your co-author, or even you can share your experience as a co-author.

From my experience I can tell you that all co-authors might not be good. Some of them might just be intruders with any contribution. I also know of a Ph D supervisor publishing papers from his student's thesis without any intimation to the student concerned and giving him second authorship

Some coauthors really contribute to your paper but some others will land on your paper exerting power!
I feel, in my experience, the papers involving more than one author do help in bringing about new ideas into the manuscript. It demands all the co-authors to think for a common vision and how each author can help to shape the manuscript. Hence, I always support this kind of configuration for the authors associated with the manuscript. Sure, multi-authored papers are beneficial but I also do not undermine the value of single-authored papers.
So far, it has been a good experience for me as all my co-authors are very cooperative and understanding and that has certainly given value to the final published paper.
As per my view we should include name of only those co author who genuinely contribute for the success of work.
Jyotirmoy Mishra thank you for sharing your amazing experience. I also expect this type of behavior from my co-author but always the same thing does not happen. There are some co-authors who do not contribute anything but want their name as a co-author.
But when I get full co-operation and contribution from them, it increases the weight of the research. We can include many unique ideas in the paper.

Even if the work shares may not be equal, in most cases, each of us have to contribute some part.

There are different areas where the co-authors can contribute to complete a research. For example, they can contribute in the following areas:
1- They can help to compose and design different kinds of research tools such as questionnaires, checklists, pre-test and post-test.
2- They can help to collect data through the above mentioned tools
3- They can help to check the students' feedback received through these tools
4- They can help to enter data in MS Excel and SPSS
5- They can proofread the paper from A to Z
The contribution of the co-others depends on nature of research and the research instruments used to collect data and the process of data analysis.
It can be exciting and productive- see my Barclay and West piece "Racism or Patriotism?" . Or West and McInnes, "Parramatta Park". Both were very useful.
Some academics seem to just use collaborators, especially junior one, to bolster their academic profiles.
It's so unjust.
I have four collaborative works so far and have had pleasant experiences with my co-researchers. The problems did not arise as we have a great understanding and have shared workload equally.
Oveall I have good experience with my coauthors. They were cooperative and helpful.
