Abstract

Jasmonic acid (JA) signalling plays a central role in plant defences against necrotrophic pathogens and herbivorous insects, which afflict both roots and shoots. This pathway is also activated following the interaction with beneficial microbes that may lead to induced systemic resistance. Activation of the JA signalling pathway via application of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) alters the composition of carbon containing compounds released by roots, which are implicated as key determinants of rhizosphere microbial community structure. In this study, we investigated the influence of the JA defence signalling pathway activation in Arabidopsis thaliana on the structure of associated rhizosphere bacterial communities using 16S rRNA gene amplicon pyrosequencing. Application of MeJA did not directly influence bulk soil microbial communities but significant changes in rhizosphere community composition were observed upon activation of the jasmonate signalling pathway. Our results suggest that JA signalling may mediate plant-bacteria interactions in the soil upon necrotrophic pathogen and herbivorous insect attacks.

Jasmonic acid (JA) is an organic compound found in several plants including jasmine. The molecule is a member of the jasmonate class of plant hormones. It is biosynthesized from linolenic acid by the octadecanoid pathway.

JA may have a role in pest control. Indeed, JA has been considered as a seed treatment in order to stimulate the natural anti-pest defenses of the plants that germinate from the treated seeds. In this application, jasmonates are sprayed onto plants that have already started growing. These applications stimulate the production of protease inhibitors in the plant. This production of protease inhibitor can protect the plant from insects, decreasing infestation rates and physical damage sustained due to herbivores.

Alan F Rawle yes I agree with you there are some toxic organic compounds even that it may expose to microbial decomposition which remove its toxicity and add more organic compounds in the other side.

It is one of new group plant hormone the molecule is a member of the jasmonate class of plant hormones. It regulates flower development in the bud stage. Till this time ,only in experiment search in Babylon , had no agricultural use in production application.

It is one of the new plant hormones that can be used for many agricultural applications. I know that it can be used to reduce the effect of fungi in Rose flowers.
