In his focus on the concept of "rationalising democracy", Suthan Krishnarajan reminds us of Laurence Whitehead's encouragement that every use of the word "democracy" is worth examining.

For example, I recently ran into the term "silver democracy" which was used in the context of an ageing Japanese society. There is concern here over policy drift to meet the needs of the older adult majority in that country which could be read as a form of electoral dictatorship from the point of view of the younger person.

What concept of democracy have you run into and why, do you think, is it worth examining?
