Hello all,

I am conducting a experiment where I need to heat up argon. I understand from publicly available resource that Nichrome or Kanthal heating elements protect themself by producing a oxide layer on its surface by reacting with oxygen from air at high temperatures.

1. Is using Nichrome/Kanthal A1 at temperatures of about 1000 C safe for extended durations like 3000 hours?

2. Would heating the elements in air in-between 100 hour experiments increase the durability?

Kind Regards,

Atul
