I am researching a phenomenon that has many theoretical perspectives. If I have to unify the various sub-components of the phenomenon, I need to get out of the system to get a clearer vision...something like the 'boiling frog syndrome'. Can there be a theoretical explanation why it is better to be outside the system to bring about integration rather than being within the system?

Don't underestimate the strength of the conventional wisdom. The conventional wisdom can explain some parts, but probably not all of a phenomenon. However, in order for others to see that, they have to acknowledge your form of testing to elicit the problem parts. Way too much personal energy and investment in points of view are involved. Much easier to hold to the conventional wisdom and see heads nod when you speak that conventional wisdom. By holding to the conventional wisdom, they retain their positions as "experts." That sounded a little negative, didn't it?
