I would like to know how to find the direction of wind at a particular location. I would also like to know whether this is possible using remote sensing data.
If you measure a particular molecular emission line you can theoretically determine the Doppler shift of the emission line induced by the wind and determine at least if the projection of the wind was towards or away of your instrument. Moreover if you use mirrors you can finally determine the exact direction. Find some more information under the link, which provides info about a wind radiometer for stratospheric winds measuring an microwave emission line of ozone.
