There are various types of warfare such as military warfare, political warfare, business warfare, marketing warfare and even information warfare etc... However, do you think there is/will be such a thing as 'Research Warfare'. If so, how would you describe it?

Taking into consideration that research is closely related to innovation, and innovation provides a significant advantage to a state/actor in order to prevail among others, I would say that "Research Warfare" could be defined as the competition between states/actors which aims at gaining the technological advantage in a specific sector and/or prevent other states/actors from evolving at the same sector. It is therefore related to industrial espionage, sabotage and/or cyberattacks.
