Photo-catalysis has been attractive for a while. Is there someone who use photo-catalysis in the purification of polluted water? How is the efficiency. Also, I care about the light source. Natural solar light?
Photocatalysis using UV has been studied for decades. One of the main problems is that titanium dioxide does not absorb very strongly in the UV (low quantum yield). This is the main problem. There are others. As for solar driven photocatalysis, this is a much more interesting area, but still the efficiency of the process is low compared to other methods of treatment. One would need a large surface area to volume ratio. At least a few such pilot plants were tested, in southern Spain for instance. But to date, there are no commercial scale photocatalysis based water treatment processes.
Photocatalysis is applied in industrial sales in water purification. You can read about "Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs)" to find tens of special applications.
