When an un-polarized light passes through a polarizer it shows light has countably infinite number of planes? just not two? what about this? is that not one of the first formulations of modern physics is seriously flawed?
For a circular or elliptical polarization two independent photons are required do not forget it.
Maxwell's theory on EM predicts it has only one plane of polarization, so is it not in contradiction?
There are evidences it is just a fit parameter nothing else, do you all agree with it?
Yes there are two perpendicular directions for independent linear polarization of EM waves. (There are other kinds also, ie. circular)
Black body radiation as discussed by Planck is a separate topic. It is the spectrum of light in equilibrium in a metalic cavity, at some given temperature. This gave way to the photon concept.
Einstein did follow up on the photon concept. Debye uses phonons.

Black body radiation would need a long explanation.
Specific heat at low temperature uses phonons, also a long topic.
In this last topic there are separate contributions from electrons and phonons.

Sir, perhaps you did not read the Einstein' specific heat of solid. he did not multiply it by a factor of 2 for two directions of polarization same is done by Debye so please see that all things are related......
Now you are asking if phonons have two directions of polarization.? Your question was about photons.

ok sir leave the phonon, just see their scattering rules (selection rules), in the crudest format:
k+K=K' (photon+phonon=new phonon), this is the deep seated meaning, just comfort yourself for this, you are now able to see why they are related?, see any basic text on this fact....eg C kettle .
ok just try to see it only for photons, if it appears something else in your judgment.
