There is much advertisement but less information about the usage and reliability of nanopore MinION in genome and transcriptome sequencing. Is there any practical experience about the current error rate in MinION sequencing? Are there some useful protocols and experience reports or any advises? I intend to investigate into a starter pack but would like to know at least one lab successfully using the device.

The error rate is ~10-12%, either higher or lower, depends on the reference technology we are comparing with.
Ultra long read provide very high coverage, also huge amount of data generated is evident in itself.
Considering the read length, the limitations are on the side of user, that user cant have uptra long reads in sample. Principally, it can read whole chromosome at a strech.
It has a limitation, that it is still not completely reliable when it comes to variant calling / SNP analysis (people claim that). But, I would say, one has to be objective and it provides genome identity to around 99%.
