Hi everyone, I am currently working on my Ph.D. proposal and I have a keen interest in green finance with a particular focus on green bonds. Can you help me with a research topic in the field of green bonds and investor's reactions?
In the past decade green bonds have gone from being an esoteric fringe product to being accepted and used in the main stream of international capital markets. It serves as a financial instrument helping to bridge the investment gap required to set to meet the targets in the 2016 Paris agreement. One interesting research topic is to create a universally excepted legal and commercial definition of a Green Bond. Other areas that are not well understood are reporting, standards, and metrics to understand the legitimacy. The pre-issuance use of proceeds disclosure and the disclosed post issuance ongoing reporting on the actual use of proceeds and how they are supporting the green initiative.
Big household names such as Apple and PepsiCo are diving into this space. A handful of massive banks and governments around the world are also issuing sustainable bonds, including China, Russia and the European Union.
This may be contributing to the space’s rapid growth. A report from Moody’s said new sustainable bond issuance may top $650 billion in 2021. That would represent a 32% jump from 2020.
Green bond principles and guidelines are
Verification, certification, a second opinion of the project selected. There is no guarantee that they projects are actually "green". There is no regulation in place or legal repercussions in the event of default of severing charter from the original plan. Standard verification framework and legal ramifications is essential and missing at this point.
Blue bonds and Gender bonds, Racial equity bonds will follow a similar suit of rigor if Green bonds get a stronghold on how investments are channeled and regulated in a global market.
The green bond is novel topic, developed in recent years. However, there were and are too much topic regarding green bond.
You can google the relevant articles and information of green bond. On the basis of literature review, you can decide the research topic combining your own research.
