You ask an interesting question as high-entropy materials, and especially high-entropy metallic alloys, truly represent an exciting class of new structural, and likely functional, materials. As most of our metallic materials are dominated by a single element, like Fe in steels and Ni in superalloys, the potential for new alloys comprising five or so elements is very enticing as no one has seriously or comprehensively looked at this parameter space up to now. How one effectively interrogates this space is still somewhat of an open question as there are potentially some 44 million new nominally equiatomic 5-element systems - if one includes variations from the equiatomic compositions, the number of potential new alloys become infinite. However, some alloys to date have shown exceptional promise, such as the so-called Cantor CrMnFeCoNi alloy, which displays exceptional damage-tolerant properties, especially at cryogenic temperatures (Gludovatz, et al. Science, 345 (2014) 1143), but as the timeline between discovery and industrial application of structural materials is measured in decades (unlike new electronic materials, where it is measured in months to years), it is too early to indicate the actual applications of these materials. However, as they can be processed effectively as traditional metallic materials, it is my opinion that their future is very bright, with respect to actual industrial applications. This is clearly a very exciting new area of metallurgy and materials science to explore
