Chronicling America is usually the best destination for old US newspapers: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ But I think your date range is outside of theirs. The main issue with your date range is that the original newspaper copyrights still apply. What I would suggest is looking through the link above to find the lists of newspapers available in your timeline, then see which ones have digital databases (often through their websites). The major newspapers such as the New York Times have digitized almost all of their editions for researchers (http://www.nytimes.com/ref/membercenter/nytarchive.html they have a 100 article free limit per month, after that it's $3.95 per month). Other newspapers, especially those which have failed or been bought by other papers, local libraries in their regions have some digitized versions and almost always have the microfiches in their libraries.

John, you have been a marvel. It is truly fascinating but tying the pieces together to make it fluid is proving a little difficult, these newspapers will help so much thank you. 

Thus far I am defining the folk/group from a number of sources, both empirical and qualitative like comedy, and it is appearing that the lavender scare was a top down concept. Though people knew of the persecutions, it appears, they did not worry about it too much beyond the fear of being labelled themselves. 

Newspapers and and primary sources will either aid in this or prove another truth for me to follow to its conclusion.

Most of my research focuses on British Military History, but I do occasionally use American sources as supplementary resources. One archive that may be worth examining is as follows:

This newspaper may help because it was a center-right wing newspaper from 1870 to the late 1950s (I am unsure how their content has shifted since then). Their website is also easy to navigate, and it should be relatively easy to find relative information. I have consulted the Chicago Tribune at least four times in the last year and a half to gauge responses to different military events.
