Actually the energy saving regulations fosters the use of polymeric foam materials in buildings. The conditions for ignition may be changed when using material thicknesses of more than 6-10 cm at the facade of buildings.

Yes I think a very good experience is obtained by many researchers.
If you are authorized for use in construction, I think that there is no fire hazard. Unfortunately I deal with science only one part of your question.

The problem is real and is very complex.
There Is a distinction to do between fire reaction (surface reaction) and Fire Load (mass combustible).
Another aspect are propagation speed and the kind of gas released during combustion.
Third factor to be considered is flame's power ( often not considered): a wooden match fails to ignite a piece of wood.
Normally if a flame and the oxygen are in contact with the polymer, the combustion starts.
If the polymer is encapsulated in not combustible material and oxygen cannot reach easily the polymer normally the combustion do not start.
Example
First
I have put a LPG flame on a side of a sandwich panel (Steel,Polystyrene, Steel),
When on the other side of panel were reached 120 °C (Measured via ThermoCam Fluke) i ended , then i have open the panel. Result is in the attached image. No oxygen, no flame
Second
With a Welding Machine (400 Amperes 50 Volt) i try to generate fire in a sandwich panel. The flame start but rapidly stops because oxygen intake in the hole was poor.
Many thanks for that example... Anyway there should be done a lot of basic research before increasing the fire load in housings by thick insulation material.
