Yes. There is recent work on developing a quantum memory for light in bulk diamond. A photon is stored in the optical phonon level of the diamond crystal. It's not directly quantum information processing, but certainly directed towards computing and communication. Here's the link to the article:

Is it a good question? Yes! Optomechanical systems are now doing such a thing! The big problem for the classical computer now is the "thermal effect" for GHz-band-signal information processing. Now, the scientists can overcome this problem by converting the GHz signal into the optical band mediated by a mechanical oscillator. After an easy and “cold” signal processing in optical band, the results can be converted back by optomechanical effect for an output. You can see the physical idea in the paper:

Yes , using photons there is a way of storing and manipulation of data through the use of photonics causing interference in electron spins and thus the manipulation in terms of state changes .
