In plant chlorine determination by spectrometry for decoloration we use activate carbon too..

We use 1g carbon for 100 ml extract (sample weight - 0,5-0,25 g). Vortex it and after 5 min standing - use filtration (with blue line or denser filter) or centrifugation
At the time of extraction, activated charcoal is added to remove the yellow coloration by organic matter as the presence of yellow color may interfere while detecting the element of interest. Although it is not very hazardous but must be carefully used.
