Our days subsonic aviation is relying on jet propulsion (turbofans) more and more. Still it is known propellers can provide higher (much higher: over 90% in peaks) propulsive efficiency. Currently, application of propellers is limited by their relative narrow speed range. Acceptable efficiency level can be reached on a speed-bandwidth of only about 1/3 of a Mach around design speed of todays propellers. By making that range wider some great results can be made possible. Such as fuel economy, silent flight, and facilitating a faster introduction of electric flight.
