thanks a lot for providing useful information, we have INFOCROP model developed for several crops, where soybean and chickpea are also there, it is working well for these crops. I was interested to look into soysim too, but it is with cost. Can it be possible for researchers to get it on complimentary basis.

Hello, if your aim is to use a simple crop model, we are using very efficiently the FAO crop yield model Agroecological Zone (KAssam, 1977) to estimate potential yield and water deficit yield depletion model for attainable yield (Doorenbos and Kassam 1979; Rao et al. 1998), and with this model, we estimate yield gap, identified soybean cultivar drought tolerance and defined the best sowing date for Brazilian conditions, please, see the link below. I believe that you can adjust the coefficients very easily for your crops.

 dear Battisti, great, can you send me the publications which I requested, i will look into the FAO reference, but possibly the approach is empirical but still great work by doorenbos and Kasam and Pruitt, I know these works and worked also on these aspects to a limited extent long back, i will look into again, INFOCROP which we developed also has soybean, which you can look into

APSIM crop simulation model can be used for mung bean but I donot know whether it can be used for lentil.

I very much feel ICRISAT and the associated group should take the initiative in development of simple models for pulses.

ICISAT also has no strong modelling group at present.That too for mungbean they will not develop any model as it is not their mandate crop.In ICAR system only it has to be developed by forming multi institutional and multi disciplinary group.

Beside all that cropgro has been adapted to mung bean in http://www.scielo.br/pdf/pab/v37n10/13216.pdf and we heard about cropgro lt for lentils; more sofisticated models like dssat require only parametric modifications about soy.
