I plan to develop a semi-structured interview tool using sequential exploratory mixed design. Qual - Quan. The semi-structured interview will be assigned a scoring/rating.
I would like to know if there are studies existing where similar methodology has been used for semi structured tool construction.

I am not sure what you are asking. In a sequential exploratory design, the typical progression would be from a qualitative interview to a survey instrument.
Can you say more about why you mean by a "semi-structured interview"?
David L Morgan yes in the first phase I plan to have an interview or fgd with the experts and then instead of a survey/scale I want to develop a semi structured interview tool in the main quantitative phase ; the responses in the interview will have a quantitative scoring system attached to it for ex 0,1,2.
I am not aware of anything directly like this, but I don't see any problem with calling it a sequential exploratory design.

I have developed a semi-structured interview based on the quantitative results from ( Likert scale questionnaire) BUT in a sequential explanatory mixed design. In your case, i think that qulaitative instrument should be prioritized and thus a questionnaire can be develpoed from qualitative results.
Of course, there are existing studies that employed similar methodology. However, coding qualitative data that is descriptive and deductive is the difficult challenge you may encounter in the first phase.
Shikha, semi-structured interviews tie up with qualitative approach, while structured interviews associated with quantitative. However, descriptive statistics (not inferrential stats) fits in qualitative for confirmatory purpose. Read about the differences and motivate also the 'sequence' Qual or Quan first.
There are two types of methodologies namely quantitative and qualitative can be used. A good thesis should be in mixed methodology but with more quantitative through justifications with logical outputs rather than being more linguistic and leant to qualitative. Because quantitative approach are simple for reader to understand and they become more precise. But for a neat flow of your quantitative outputs you need to be qualitative for a decent extent.
