not sure if anything like this has been done specifically for South Yorkshire but the Health Survey for England may be a good starting point as it contains many detailed results and is mapped down to smallish geographic areas and has been running for many years. It may also be advisable to contact Barnsley Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service (BADAS) who have good knowledge of problems in the area and may be able to point you in the right direction. Local Drug Action Teams such as Sheffield may also be able to advise.

TRY David Beckingham at Liverpool - his research is more historical than contemporary, on drinking and its regulation in Liverpool, but he probably knows about more current-day research as well.
