Yes, there is a relationship. Adsorption is higher if the polarisability of the adsorbate is higher, e.g. Kr is much easier to adsorb than He onto a given surface. In the case of charge transfer, the surface is polarised and can induce polarisation of adsorbates, and hence a better adsorption. This is the reason why so many trials have been done to dope carbon materials with metals or other heteroatoms for better adsorbing H2, which is very poorly polarisable molecule.
