I am using a high DC output voltage generator up to a range of 1kV for my research. (The output current is very low.) The output voltage can be either +1kV or -1kV. So if I want to change the polarity I have to do it manually. I am looking for a commercial part that can add to the circuit which can automatically change the output voltage polarity and give +/- 1kV in an adjustable timely manner (i.e. adjustable frequency).
At 1kV, there is no single "Part" that would do the job. It requires a Full-Bridge topology power converter. Consisting of 4 MOSFETS, with the associated 1kV Isolated Drivers, and a PWM Controller.
Hello, I hope it is not too late for the answer, I do not know in the market a piece that makes the polarity change, however, I have achieved it with an H bridge, of the type that is used to reverse the rotation of the motors dc, but with 1.5 KV mosfet of Vds as the NDFPD1N150CG.
If the output voltage is not ground referenced, a high-voltage DPDT relay can do the polarity inversion. If the output is ground referenced and the load is not required to be ground referenced, a high-voltage DPDT relay can swap the polarity of the load to accomplish the same result. If either of these 2 approaches will work for you, I hope your reference to "adjustable frequency" really means an adjustable time period (at least 100ms), since relays have significant operating time delays. Also, a relay that is rated for a million cycles will exceed a million cycles in 11 days when switched at a 1Hz cycle rate.
