I have a 2D system, you can think of it as a 2D sheet. There is a formation of ridges in this sheet when it is given a constant in-plane pressure. I want to model the ridge dynamics. Is there any model, equation or theory for the ridge formation?
The results of modeling of the "ridges" formation will strongly depend on whether or not you allow "sheet" to separate from the basement on which it lies. In the first case, the "ridges" are modeled by bended folds while in the second case they arise as a result of the surface instability. See, e.g., the attached file.
