I am doing work on plant based dyes. we do have colourimeter and UV spectrophotometer. Do any one know an equation or software to convert transmittance or absorbance value to colour coordinates
Absorbance is a integrated value. Only if you are working always with the same dye, you can use it for quantitation. If you are working with several dyes, you need to take several values at different wavelengths or, depending on the complexity, entire spectra. Chlorophylls have been analyzed by taking absorptions at selected wavelenghts (Porra, R. J. (2006). Spectrometric assays for plant and bacterial chlorophylls. Chlorophylls and Bacteriochlorophylls: Biochemistry, Biophysics, Functions and Applications. B. Grimm, R. Porra, W. Rüdiger and H. Scheer. Dordrecht (ISBN 1-4020-4515-8), Springer: 95-107; Porra, R. J. (2002). "The chequered history of the development and use of simultaneous equations for the accurate determination of chlorophylls a and b." Photosynth. Res. 73: 149), but the method will fail whenever you have an extra component absorbing at these wavelengths.
