There are many treatment options for MS being the most important, Copaxone, Tecfidera and Ocrevus (just approved in US, expected for this year in Europe) (in my opinion). However, actual treatments do not cure the disease, they just reduce the number of attacks, inflammation and the progression but none of them cure the disease.

The situation is even worst in the progressive forms of MS for which only Ocrevus has demonstrated a limited efficacy.

The treatment depends on the type of MS (relapsing or progressive), the secondary effects in each patient and the evolution. There are guides with treatment trees to decide.

There are many drugs in the pipeline and some of them are expected to be very efficacious, will see in the next 5 years.

I understand that a Potassium (K) channel blocker, Fampridine, is approved to potentially assist walking ability in adults with MS, taking some 8 weeks for an effect: it may provoke seizures in those with history of such.

As long as MS remains defined by unexplained neurological dysfunctions, no causal treatment is possible. Indeed, May Msg and Boaz Barak, no DMD, "disease modifying drug", can claim to treat an identified cause or even "cure MS".

Nor can any of these drugs be said to mitigate a symptom that haunts a patient.

The "MS drugs" prolong at best a suffering that has to remain unexplained.
