The optical conductivity measures the response of the material to light. It thus depend on the light frequency. It also depends on the absorption coefficient that depends on the refractive index of the material. Can one connect the optical conductivity to the frequency and the refractive index directly in a single formula?.

Thank you very much for your quick answer. I am asking this question because I have derived a formula for the optical conductivity that is a function of the refractive index and the frequency of the incident light. This is sigma= f*sqrt(n^2/(n^2-1)), where f=frequency, n=refractive index. Just want to see if this is acceptable.
Optical conductivity is calculated using the relation
OC=Alpha(absorption coeff)*n(RI)*c(vel of light)/(4*Pi)
The optical conductivity directly depends on the ref index and absorption coefficient.
You can find the dependence of optical conductivity on frequency just by using other simple relations (for frequency)

But alpha depends on the transmission coefficient that depends on the refractive index. My question is a formula that explicitly shows the dependence of the optical conductivity on the refractive index and no other variables implicitly depends on the refractive index. I know this is not available theoretically but from experiments one can determine these variables using ellipsometry....
