There are many articles devoted to the assessment of stroke volume (SV) by the method of impedance cardiography (ICG). There is a description and bioimpedance devices that determine the breathing cycle. But we didn't find studies in which these two characteristics were determined simultaneously.

The 2 cycles have significant different timing. Pulsatile flow is rapid ( avg 70ppm) and recorded above a baseline which varies slowly being its variation induced by respiratory pattern (avg 10 cycles/minute) . Some investigators require to hold breathing for a while to get a clean pulsatile flow signal, but with good amplification it is not quite necessary.

To separate these two components we use wavelet transform and can calculate the parameters of stroke volume during inhalation and exhalation, verifying these phases, not only in slow part of the impedance, but also in RR intervals changes. It is known that during inhalation stroke volume decreases, and increases during expiration. The problem is that in our measurements we can't get a clear confirmation of tthese changes.

Thanks Prema, the basic our idea - dosn't to eliminate the respiratory wave during measurement, but namely to conduct simultaneous measurements of the two signal components.
Whole-body impedance cardiography measures stroke volume and breathing (frequency and amplitude) simultaneously. And several other parameters like ECW and PWV. There are lot of publications available on that topic, especially in russian (Tischenko MI et al.).

Apparently I have to clarify the issue. Of course, there are many publications on the determination of the stroke volume with. ICG. It is known that the left ventricular ejection varies depending on the phase of respiration. Is it possible to obtain such results on the basis of ICG?
Yes, it is. For example, CircMon device measures beat-to-beat stroke volumes and shows simultaneously respiration curve. This device is good for research. You can export beat-to-beat (and also respiratory cycles averaged) data (incl. Excel) and make your own analyses.
