I am working on a slope stability with DEM using PFC2D. The software exits automatically when i launch my model. I wonder if it is because of the number of particles, because everything works fine when i use bigger particles of smaller model. The Itasca website doesn't specify a limitation for the number of particles.
If you use the demo version, it may have limitations regarding the number of the particles, for the full copyright edition, the particle number is normally not the problem.
Correct, the demo permits the cycling of a maximum of 1,000 balls or 1,000 clumps (not exceeding a total of 1,000 balls) and up to 10 discrete fractures. However, you would get a warning message if you exceed this; the program should not crash because of demo limits.
Otherwise, the only technical limit is the amount of RAM in your computer. You should be able to readily create and work with models with 100,000's or even a few million particles. Thank you very much. After reading your answers, I think the problem might be my computational ressources limitation.
I also have a question about the "model solve unbalanced-average" command which set the average unbalanced force as an exit condition for the cycling. It is considered as an error by the software. Only the "model solve unbalanced-maximum" works. Both of them are in the command list. Why does this problem occur ?
