Hi. That's an interesting and important question, and indoor air quality has long been something of a forgotten step-child in the overall policy arena regarding air pollution control--perhaps because it potentially gets down to such a very local, even home-specific matter, and also gets into matters relating to privacy of homeowners and what they do in their homes, for instance, or a building owner's ownership and control of their premises.
Probably for that reason, national and international policies regarding indoor air pollution may tend to show less development of (enforceable) rules, regulations, and standards, and more (recommended and less readily enforceable) "guidelines"--in other words, higher-level governmental and scientific authorities may be strongly encouraging maintenance of indoor air quality to certain levels, but they are leaving any enforcement (or non-enforcement) up to lower-level authorities. This would appear to be an inherently difficult area to regulate, and I suspect in a lot of cases, these recommended standards and guidelines are honored in the breach.
In addition to what the earlier answer provided, here are just a few links to some sources of information that looked potentially interesting and useful regarding the U.S. context (with which I'm most familiar) and the broader international context. I think most of these are available for free.
Good luck with your research!
