There is an article in today's NY Times indicating that upwards of 90% of the heat from global warming is being stored in the oceans. I am not a (geo)chemist but there likely could be an effect on salinity. The article references a a report released last week by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Also referenced is Eric Leuliette of NOAA, but gives no contact information. Good luck.

This year the temperatures in the Arctic are much higher than the 1920-30s. Many weather stations in Greenlandic settlements have measured the warmest summer and spring since the stations were created.

The average of all the stations is 2.3 C above the average for each station but several of the older stations have measured the warmest ever spring and summer lead by Upernavik with 8.2 ºC above the average since 1873.

Today the North pole has had open water with just drifting ice-floes.

In the Greenlandic weather stations I am talking about the actual measurements since the stations were created. There are no changes in the data that have been read of the thermometers several times a day and written into the logbook of each station by actual persons living there and making quantitative data, not headlines for newspapers. The averages are mathematical averages without applying any weighting reported by DMI which has the archives of the collected data.

Kenneth: It is clear you cannot see the point. You were writing about your believe in the warmer 1920-1930s in the Arctic sea. I commented that it has been warmer this year as weather stations in Greenland with continuous measurements since before 1920 has reported record high  temperatures during both the spring and summer 2016. 

Nain in Labrador is at 56°32′32″N which isn't really on the coast of the Arctic sea. More or the less the same latitude as there i grew up in Denmark. The year 1779 is also not in the 1920-1930s.

Same thing with Galapagos, 1835.

I am mostly concerned about the opposite as are most scientist which are not paid to have the denial opinion.

Your descriptions from 1925 1926 of the ice conditions are very similar to any year 1990-2010. Since then there have more or less not been old sea ice in any of the mentioned location.

Obviously I am not paid to have an opinion on climate. Can you say the same?

The fact support that the Arctic has warmed much more than 1 °C and the sea ice is shrinking every summer - not doubling as you claim.

There are many permanent meteorological stations around the Arctic sea and on Greenland. If there was a warming in the 1920-30s why can you not show this in any temperature curves that come with a source indication?

You are well aware a Smithsonian staff researcher has been caught taking money to produce opposing evidence for global warming and hiding this funding for the journals this work was published in even this is clearly required to be disclosed. Added to this the Smithsonian has as an institution also dirtied its name with the Koch funded exhibition with the mission statement: “Travel back 6 million years to discover how our ancestors struggled to survive dramatic climate changes and, in the process, evolved the traits that make us human.”

There are no evidence to show about the heatwave in the 1920-30s so you might as well try some more jumping to other subjects!

Faria, certainly there is likely to be reciprocal interactions between climate and sea surface salinity, especially if wholesale salinity changes occur in areas of deep water mass formation, e.g. off Greenland or Antarctica. Climate warming is expected to lead to an amplification of the hydrological cycle. At higher latitudes climate models tell us that there is a strong possibility of enhanced freshwater inputs to the Arctic Ocean due to increase river discharge. What I am not so sure about is the extent to which this is likely to depress salinity in those areas of water mass formation of the North Atlantic. One extreme scenario would be that salinity would become lowered to the point where surface waters in those areas would become buoyant no matter how low their temperature and so would just sit on top of denser, more saline water underneath. Under that scenario, the thermohaline (density driven) circulation that you refer to would slow down significantly and this would compromise the capacity of the ocean to redistribute heat from the low to the high latitudes. 

Oh dear Kenneth - I am not ignoring your no-evidence I am disproving it. Proving a heatwave existed for two decades in the Arctic and Europe within the last century (as I understand that you claim there was) would logically be done by the data from the many weather stations that have recorded temperatures daily. Many data series span 120+ years back.

You chose instead to use old selective picked newspaper cuts that describe qualitatively weather observations in just a few summer months of a year. In scientific discussions of temperatures I believe the thermometer beats the (news)paper and scissors by a god margin.

The descriptions in your old texts are not of warmer conditions than the normal in the last decades. You didn’t bother to find some newspaper cuts (with references) after the 1930s that show sensation hungry journalists (opposite of scientists) complains about the increasing ice cover in the Arctic and the nuisance to boat traffic that it would surely cause while frost destroyed crops in Europe that had succeeded for decades before. The only scientist you mention is the National Socialist (=nazi) Adolf Hoel. You can surely find some old newspaper in the basement you usually search in that tells he was kicked out of his professorship the same time as the other Adolf.

I don’t think there is a crusade against you and I am not searching for data about you (Paranoia, Proof or man made climate change might exist?). For some time I have confronted your picked cherries with continuous data from fully quoted and accessible sources. It is part of the scientific method that we use data to reach conclusions.

The unethical claim is for you to prove. Will it be a green alien named John Smith telepathically told you I changed the temperature records since 1880 in all weather stations for half the globe and while my crypton-invisible-correction-ink leaves no evidence, it is true because the green alien had a RG score of 0.01!

A poor replacement for evidence of heat. Couldn't find any thermometer?

what comparing the modern Argo data with the older WOCE data has told is that the ocean has warmed. It’s also telling us that there have been changes in the hydrological cycle – the salty parts of the ocean have gotten saltier and the fresh parts of the ocean have gotten fresher – so that basically is consistent with the hydrological cycle accelerating a little bit, in other words, more rain where it’s already rainy or even drier where it’s already dry, according to Dr Phil.
