Although martensite is described as phase containing a small amount of carbon, in databases it is not listed as a specific phase. Like bainite it is described as microstructure and not as phase. Both are usually defined as ferrite. Nevertheless, it is of essential practical interest to separate these three microstructures from each other. Is there a general tool available based on EBSD data, and what does it tell us? How reliable are quantifications of all three "components"?
