I have two XRD pattern of biochar. one before activation (BC-M) and the other after activation (AC-M). Now I need help for interpretation. As I know, the structure of biochar before activation is graphite-like sheets in highly disordered form. therefore no serious peaks are expected except a small peaks at around 2theta=26 . But after activation two peaks at around 2theta=26 and 2theta=41 are formed which indicate the turbostratic structure. Can anyone put a more precise interpretation on it?

With increasing temperature increase in the intensity of the amorphous halo peak. Maximum becomes more pronounced and moves to 26-27 degrees, which is characteristic of graphite, which is associated with the processes of graphitization of the organic component and the formation of the nanocrystalline structure of the matrix.

The sharper peak near 26.6 degrees (assuming Cu radiation) could also be due to quartz impurity. Its quite common to observe traces of quartz in biochar, so be careful. The peaks will be broadened and displaced due to transparency effects. The very broad maxima in your patterns are the peaks from the biochar carbon.
I have stumbled upon this discussion thread while searching for some XRD peaks information. In addition to 26-27 and 42 degrees peak, I have observed a characteristic 28 and 29 degrees peak and one peak at around 37degrees. Could you please suggest as to what peaks they refer to. Thank you.
