I don't like responding to a question with a question, only, but I must here. How big is your plant and can it be modified economically to form a spouted bed? A lot of work has been done on drying of wheat grains in such things. The fluidizing media is usually warm to hot air. Remember also to read up on the safety aspects /problems with these devices.

the above note should keep you occupied for a while. If you cannot economically modify the bed then some of the above may not be practicable. Can you increase your air flow? If yes, what max. air flow value can you achieve?

One thing that you should strive to achieve is continuous uniform mass flow of wet medium. A sudden dump of heavy medium matter into the bed will almost always lead to initial chaneling of the fluidising air.

Using a different approach, have you considered the crater bed. It may be used as a pre-dryer bed to break up any heavy initial agglomerations. Again I suspect that funds are not available.
