The term "natural history" used to include a wide spectrum of information, which has now been divided into various fields. Of course, it is not a 'discipline' in the strict sense of the word...I suppose subjects like Economic Entomology etc have a lot to do with studying insect habitats.
I recently came across another publication by Wu (2013) that defines a new science: Landscape sustainability science (which in brief is an integration of landscape ecology and sustainability science). You can find the article under:
