Many universities have guidelines on their final research output for graduate students. Oftentimes, it is said that dissertations and thesis are different things, whereas it appears that, may be, it is just the way universities like to call it. Is there any historical perspective of these terms, or is there really any difference between the two? How about the policy of your university if you have the both? Thanks.
