At the time when I studied at the University, the term "Botany" referred essentially to classification and taxonomical issues of plants, including the traits on the basis of which this classification was done, such as morphological, anatomical or reproductive characteristics. It was rather descriptive. "Plant Science" was taken as something wider, including Botany as well as Physiology, Genetics, Crop Production, etc.

Plant Science is a peer-reviewed scientific journal of plant biology. The journal was originally established as Plant Science Letters in 1973, changed its name to Plant Science in 1986. The journal is published by Elsevier and is currently edited by Eduardo Blumwald, Erich Grotewold, Liwen Jiang, David Wendehenne. but botany is a book of the living plant.

In general, Botany is the study of plants, fungi & not include the plant physiology... Plant sciences study the horticulture & greenhouse management ; Agriculture & soil .

Botany, also called plant science(s), plant biology or phytology, is the science of plant life and a branch of biology. A botanist, plant scientist or phytologist is a scientist who specialises in this field.

So, I think , they are the same.

Both of Botany and Plant Science are same.

Study of plants (photosynthetic organisms) originated as Botany, later in the modern times, along with advancement in the study of plants and the mechanisms of life in them, the term 'plant science' originated.

Botany is quite classical study of plants, 'Plant science' is quite modern study of plants. Both deals with study of plants.

In many universities, along with advancement in the syllabus of the study of plants, the name of the department also changed from Botany to Plant Science.

However, in many universities, still the name Botany is maintained for the Department that deal with the study of plants and the Degree offered to students who study plants is also in Botany.

No. Plant science and Botany both refer to the same subject. But the word Botany is derived from Botane, meaning herb. Hence the use of the word sometimes felt inappropriate. However, the plant science encompasses all plants and hence it can be used without any problem.

In my opinion, plant science is more recent term which is sometimes used as a synonym for botany in universities. However botany in its classical sense (plant morphology, anatomy, paleontology, ecology and geobotany) can be included in plant science. The latter includes not only classical botanical disciplines but also plant physiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular phylogeny etc.).

In contemporary world, there is no need to make boundaries between disciplines, it's simply not productive. All fine (and high-impact) works are being done as multidisciplinary. Some of my colleagues tend to be strict about distinguishing in the way like "this is genetics and this is not (and hence is not worth doing)". I think, the future belongs to the integrated disciplines such as plant science.
