Barriers are removed in interdisciplinary courses and with the use technology creatively to facilitate all students from any discipline science, commerce, arts and technology have freedom to work in their passion areas or vice-versa.

In the present century there is no barrier between science, arts and commerce. Even you see the science of carbon sequestration is tackled by commerce and economics through carbon credit..... You also see that how nasty DJ is crossing the subject barrier
Maybe it's also about intellect. This is needed everywhere. People, however, it must be able to engage his intellect also outside their "major job". They should not be subject to social prejudice - historically incurred categorization and restriction - do not underestimate the individual activity of other people.
