There are many however I like the first 2 I mentioned as empathy is depleted with secondary traumatic stress conditions such as compassion fatigue (caregiver burnout) and vicarious traumatization. Psychiatric nurses usually have high vicarious trauma due to violence in the workplace.

Recent studies have used Trauma-informed Care approaches with professional caregivers such as nurses, firemen, police, etc. They use the term compassionate trauma and secondary trauma. If professional caregivers don't address their own stressors and trauma it is difficult for them to be effective with their patients/clients
Do you mean is there a structure to guide mental health assessment by psychiatric or mental health nurses? There is a book coming our soon edited by Steve Trenoweth that I have contributed to that covers this very subject. In the interim I would recommend reading chapter 14 on Assessment within the Norman and Ryrie book "The Art and Science of Mental Health Nursing; Principles and Practice. It is published by Open University Press.
