Check the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) either 2010 or 2015 versions. They have a pretty simplified way of computing ground motions and have special factors for masonry structures
You can look that up online here: https://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/publications/codes_centre/2015_national_building_code.html
From my obenion the good method is to try to connect all the building structural elements to behave as a box to avoid the ground motion hazards in masonry buildings spcially wall bearing walls. There are many methods used.
