Is there a technical solution to perform the EBSD on metallic foam samples as it is highly porus?
I guess you are talking about closed porosity. This is indeed a bit tricky because of the big amount of "thumb" areas. I am not sure whether all suppliers offer this opportunity but CrystAlign (Bruker) has a mode which uses a black/white bitmap. It controls the beam: measure the position (black pixel) and don't measure (white pixel). To this aim you can use a BSE image and transfer it into a black-white image. Then you can load it as mask and the system only scans the black pixel positions. Of course, the still existing major problem is drift, but if you use variable pressure (or low mag) it perhaps does not generate dramatic problems. At least I did it in case of small irregular particles embedded in resin and it worked surprizingly good.
In case of open porosity one can infiltrate this porosity by resin (there is some special, high fluid resin which even fills capillars).
