Normally an all sky image is curved because of the larger areal integration and lens geometry. This results in underestimated distance evaluation in the recorded images. This becomes a very serious issue when full field of view is more than 90 degrees. I am trying to find out a simple method or software to solve this problem.
For the characterization of an all sky camera operated at our institute we used the position of several stars in order to characterize the projection distortion of the camera. Therefore, we compared the position of stars that we recognized in an all sky picture with the azimuth and altitude angle of those stars, derived from the freely available astronomic software package "Stellarium".
