I am not aware of any studies that have prospectively followed a cohort of youth whose first manic episode was clearly substance‑induced. I understand that the broader literature on youth mania and bipolar disorder suggests that early manic symptoms, whether substance‑induced or otherwise, confer a markedly elevated risk for subsequent substance use disorders.
