Recording from peripheral nerves in anesthetized rodents using hook electrodes and the nerve sometimes slips off the hooks. Can anyone recommend an adhesive that won't affect the viability/function of the nerve during my recordings?
There are a number of surgical glues that might work, including surgical cyanoacrylate and other compositions. Here is one site for a glue that might work: http://www.cryolife.com/products/bioglue-surgical-adhesive
A good choice would be to use an adhesive that would allow you to attach, or at least increase friction, of your tissue to surfaces that are smooth. Even if you are using another type of tissue, it seems to me, that this is a very nice option: http://www.ionoptix.com/product/ionoptix-myotak/
Thank you everyone for your feedback. I've tried blood plasma before but given I'm using bipolar electrodes it made - and + continuous thus grounding out the signal. I'll try these various glues and report back with the best result.
Seems like the best thing that doesn't damage the nerve is a 1:1 mineral oil/petroleum jelly mix. It is viscous enough to secure the nerve from movement but malleable for minor adjustments if needed.
Super glue causes noticeable decreases in unmyelinated c-fiber activity.
