Some thinkers and academicians have indicated this trade off, suggesting that publishing a lot has a negative impact on teaching and learning by the scholar concerned.
I agree with Ayman that there has to be some sort of trade-off. Publishing, both solo and within a team, is a protracted and lengthy process. That said, if the aim is say one publication per year - then that is realistic even within a full teaching workload. If the aim is multiple publications (including conference proceedings etc) - then 'something has to give' - and it is most likely to impact teaching and learning commitments. If it doesn't impact teaching - then one assumes that it will impact 'administration' i.e. university and community service, committee work etc.
